Make Your Stay Memorable

On top of your comfort stays with Le Cottage Mbale, you can take a day or 2 out of your schedule to explore what's around you in Mbale. We've partnered with several organizations to maximize your stay in Mbale and make it memorable. We have activities and tours ready for your exploration from safari tours of the Mt. Elgon National Park, Sipi falls trekking, mountain climbing, coffee tasting, and better yet, giving back to the community by spending a day with organizations that take care of children and widows, and so much more.

HIKING

Mbale's location in the East gives it proximity to several options for hiking. It is located at the foothills of Wanale, one of Mt Elgon's ranges. Hiking Wanale gives you a view of beautiful waterfalls as well as a breathtaking scenery of Mbale city from the top.

You will also be able to hike Mt. Elgon, the oldest extinct volcano in East Africa. The landscape of the area includes cliffs, waterfalls,  caves, hot springs and of course the Mt. Elgon summits, which house one of the largest calderas in the region. There are also 144 species of birds within the park for bird lovers as well as a variety of flora and fauna.

SIPI FALLS

Sipi Falls is a series of three spectacular waterfalls in Eastern Uganda. The waterfalls cascade over cliffs ranging from 69m to 100m. Visitors can stand in the caves behind the falls and enjoy a view of the back of the falls. Sipi falls is less than a 40 minute drive from Mbale city, and the area is the starting point for many hikes up Mt. Elgon.

CITY TOURS AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCES

The cultural experiences explore the rich culture and practices of the people in Mbale city and its neighbouring communities. This can be done through bike rides or nature walks. Different packages are offered depending on what you'd like to do.

COFFEE TASTING AND FARM VISITS

Come visit the coffee farms where hundreds of tourists, investors, and Ugandan nationals come to see coffee farmers cultivate a arabica coffee on the slopes of Mt. Elgon. Coffee growing flourishes on the slopes of Mt. Elgon because of the fertile volcanic soils and high altitudes, among other factors. Take a guided coffee tour and see the path coffee takes from the farm to the table and store products.

TOUR AND VOLUNTEER WITH COMMUNITY GROUPS

If you are looking to help build communities in the rural areas in  Uganda, even for a day or two on your stay with us, we have partnered with NGO's that help build the community in the area. Spend a day volunteering at these NGO's or working with community groups in Mbale and neighboring cities. These community groups are engaged in the different communities with all sorts of programs ranging from helping children and families meet their basic needs, working with community clinics to improve public health in the rural areas, getting involved with counseling young women, young men, and even children, to helping with adult literacy, vocational skills training and so much more.
